Mike Milligan - President
Having been a PR manager, a director of communications, and a vice president of marketing & communications for a number of healthcare organizations, Mike gives Legato a serious edge to healthcare marketing. He knows firsthand the challenges our clients face. He's been there.
What prompted you to start your own business?
In college, I knew I was meant to be an entrepreneur. I applied for a pizza delivery job, and the manager asked one question, "Do you have a car?" "Yep," I said, thinking about my Toyota Starlet, with holes in the floor boards, a missing bumper, and a gas gauge that didn't work. During my deliveries, I saw partying students who needed rides. So I'd squish them in next to the pizza warmer, to pick up some extra bucks. And my boss wondered, "Why does Mike want to work so many hours?"
Why an advertising firm?
Because I don't know how to use a hammer. That, and it's intellectually challenging. People might think that advertising is fluff. But it's a complex business requiring creativity and good business knowledge. There aren't many fields where you can combine both.
Okay. So why healthcare?
It's one of the most complex fields to market.
What is the most interesting or oddest job you've ever had?
I was a Chief Corn Detasseling Supervisor in rural Wisconsin. I traveled from town to town with my team of college kids making sure they pulled the tassels off in order to pollinate the corn.
What unusual skill do you have?
My staff calls me Rain Man because I remember every phone number I've ever been told.
What is your favorite TV series?
Mad Men.
